NEW PRINT: The Scottish Sound: Key Records (1978 –1999)
A visual timeline of sound, style, and spirit.
The Scottish Sound is a hand-signed print charting some of the most iconic, influential, and cult-loved records to emerge from Scotland’s rich musical era between 1978 and 1999.
This is not a mass-produced piece. It’s a personal project, curated, researched, and designed by me, Alejandro De Luna, for anyone who loves post-punk, indie, dream pop, and the unmistakable legacy of Scotland’s alternative music scene.
Each of the 72 featured records has been chosen for its cultural significance, underground influence, critical acclaim, or emotional resonance. Like all lists, this one is personal, but it aims to capture the essence of the Scottish sound. This isn’t just a list; it’s a visual history.
Some of the featured titles include:
Psychocandy – The Jesus and Mary Chain
The Only Fun in Town – Josef K
High Land, Hard Rain – Aztec Camera
You Can’t Hide Your Love Forever – Orange Juice
Sulk – The Associates
Bandwagonesque – Teenage Fanclub
Tigermilk – Belle and Sebastian
Rattlesnakes – Lloyd Cole and the Commotions
Hats – The Blue Nile
Dogs in the Traffic – Love and Money
Heaven or Las Vegas – Cocteau Twins
Dum-Dum – The Vaselines
The Three EPs – The Beta Band
Will I Ever Be Inside of You – Paul Quinn and the Independent Group
Mogwai Young Team - Mogwai
..and many more.
From Glasgow breakthroughs to East Kilbride legends and Edinburgh rarities, this print is a tribute to Scotland’s sound heritage, a carefully mapped archive of records that still echo today.
Geography of Influence
Each record is colour-coded by origin: Glasgow, Edinburgh, East Kilbride, or other Scottish regions turning the timeline into a subtle visual map of where the sound came from.
